In this video I will explain what is the Lamb shift. In 1951 Willis Lamb discovered that the 2S1/2 state is at a slightly higher energy state than the 2P1/2. The Lamb shift, like the fine structure, are the even-smaller effect of the spin properties and the orbital motion of the electron causing the existence of the magnetic field thus causing the slight change in energy levels.
